Thanks for stopping by.

Well, during yesterday's ride they basically stopped working again. I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and take it to the shop to have it fixed.

Properly adjusted brakes takes either luck or a fair amount of experience. Sounds like you found the issue, which is centering. You actually need a special tool to hold the mounting bolt center while you tighten the nut.

Maybe it's the endorphin rush from cycling. You get addicted to it and feel it if it's absent for too long.

I know how you feel. I have started to feel really guilty if I don't get a ride in. I guess that's a good thing.

I thought about the hook idea too. Great minds must think alike.

One of the last things I did to my break was adjust it's centering. I may have inadvertently fixed it because last night it gave me zero problems other than the brake handle required me to squeeze on it too much before the break engaged. I'm guessing that's a cable tension issue though.

I don't have any good excuses for not riding. I got in a ride on Saturday, and unintentional workout Sunday and now I'm stuck at a conference in the Catskills for 4 days. Ugh.

I used same trick last year when I was doing tune-ups for a few friends, but I jury-rigged a couple of those red garage bike hanger hooks on the rope. Then just hooked one under the seat and one under the handlebar stem and it worked like a charm. As far as your break problem goes, the only thing I can think of is that your hex bolt holding the to the frame is too tight, preventing free rotation back when you release the brake. Try lube at the pivot point (if you haven't already) and back off the pressure on the hex bolt just a bit.

Glad I could help. You could probably take something like a coat hangar, make a double-ended hooks, bend it in the middle (attach the rope in middle), and place the hooks on the handle bars on either side of the stem connection to keep the forks straight. A coat hangar might not be strong enough but you get the idea.

I love your idea for a make shift bike stand... why didn't I think of that? I will be stealing your idea sometime this week. I hope you don't mind too much.
