Yes, the Waco Wild West. On July 4th it will be 12 weeks away. I'm working hard now to get a good fitness base in so I can complete a 12 week workup to the century. I'm also putting a lot of pressure on myself so I can lose the weight. It's got to come off.

What century are you targeting? Waco Wild West? That's not until September, so you've got lots of time. It sounds like you're putting too much pressure on yourself.
To keep hydrated, I set my computer to time, rather than distance. That way I've got a visual reminder every time 10-15 minutes passes, and it's time to take a drink.

Doug, thanks for stopping by. You bring up a good point about warm-up. I have about a two mile ride from where I park until I get to the loop I ride around the lake. I try and use these two miles as my warm up but maybe it's not long enough or I'm going too fast. Next ride I'll extend my warm up, and take it slow, to see what happens.

Scott, thanks for stopping by and for the encouragement. Maybe it was just an off day. I'll find out this evening. Perhaps I do need to change up my rides.

Thanks Al. Nutrition is tough to crack. There's so much information out there it's easy to go into overload.

It could be that you simply started too fast without a proper warm-up. I did that last week and had a horrible ride. This week, I soft peddled the first 10k before upping my pace, and had maybe my best ride of the year. I guess that's why you always see the pros warming on their trainers before starting a TT.

We all have off days. It sounds like you are doing a great job, both physically and mentally. Stay with it and I'm sure you'll keep seeing results. If you start to feel burned out with something, then change up your training and try a different kind of ride for a day or so. You have a great attitude, and I think that is 90% of the battle.

As the old saying goes, "just keep on keepin' on". Keep on riding consistently and the results will come.

I think for both of us, proper nutrition is a tougher nut to crack. Getting on the bike is easy because it's fun. Eating right takes some measure of willpower.

You're on track for success. Just keep at it; your focus is there.
