I’ve got a semi-serious question for you folks. Anyone whose been around road cycling knows that there are some written and unwritten rules out there. I’m talking about stuff like not wearing a pro team jersey (unless you actually raced on the team), wearing a world champ jersey (unless you actually won said world championship) or no attacking on the last stage of the Tour de France. The written rules you can find here.
I totally get the whole pro team jersey and world champ jersey rules. My question considers matching bibs and jerseys though. I’m not talking a matching pro team kit. Or even a full kit to include jersey, bibs, socks, arm warmers, etc. I’m just talking about a matching jersey and bibs from one of the popular cycling clothing manufacturers like Pearl Izumi or Louis Garneau. I would say Castelli but I’ll never be able to fit into euro-size kit.
On my typical Saturday group ride I see mostly black bibs with some kind of jersey. No pro team or world championship jerseys. Those that are in full kit are either wearing the bike shops kit or a kit that was developed for an old business team. I did see a chick in a Honey Stinger kit once that looked amazing but I don’t think a guy could pull off that look. Especially not this guy.
I’m talking about something like this:
I think the kit above isn’t too over the top as far as design goes. Call it minimal. Some of the Pearl Izumi designs can a little more outrageous but not out of the picture.
So, what do you think? Are matching bibs and jersey cool or not?
