I guess I'm confused. I didn't think the performance bibs were a gel chamois. From the performance website:

The Elite II Chamois - "Italian made, Quadrotto chamois with 4-way stretch offers comfortable cushioning and uses a silver ion finish for antibacterial protection"

The Ultra II Chamois- "Cytech Italian chamois comfortably moves with you, wicks away sweat and features an antibacterial finish"

Neither says they use a gel chamois.

Bryan, I too am working towards my first century. The Hotter ‘N Hell Hundred. Maybe not the best choice for my first century but that’s the plan. Keep me posted.

Do you have a link to the Santini kit you have?

Glad to know I’m not the only person who uses safety glasses as sunglasses…I keep’em in my car when I’m not riding. You’re both right…why change if they’re working.

I have two pairs of the Ultras (gray chamois). What I like is the fabric and construction. They fit nice, and have nice compression. The chamois is not the best, though. I find for very long rides (75+), it is far inferior to the chamois in my Santini kit. But I still ride with them all the time!

I have a pair of safety glasses that I use as sunglasses in my truck! I’ve thought about using them as cycling glasses. As Gerhard says, if they work, why change?

Perhaps they are foam in the “Elite II” – I have the “Elite”. Perhaps they changed it? Mine is definitely a gel chamois.

To the sunglasses – if the ones you use fit and work, no need to get “cycling” glasses
I use the Performance Ultra bibs and for my tender bottom they are the bomb!

I got a pair of the Performance Elite bibs back in March and I like them so far. It took about 10 good rides in them to break them in, but this might be par for the course with a gel chamois. It’s the first gel I’ve used.
I plan on getting at least one more pair (hopefully 2) in the near future.
