// About Me

What about me?  I’m your typical 36 year old guy that has a wife, 3 beautiful girls, one cat, and a dog.  I take care of the yard work around the house, give the smelly dog a bath once a week or so, and deal with having two teenage daughters in high school and an eight year old that thinks she’s sixteen.  Did I mention that I was the only male in the house?  Oh boy.

So, that’s me.  What most people don’t know is that I am way, way overweight.  To the tune of about 100 pounds.  Not only is that unhealthy, it’s also unfair to my family.  How so?  Because, by being this overweight and having the family I history I have, I’m potentially putting my family in a position where they could be without a husband and father much sooner rather than later.

So, armed with those two compelling reasons, and after a long talk with my wife, I’ve made a commitment to return to bicycling to help me lose the weight.  Bicycling alone won’t do it (I also needed to make huge modifications in my daily food consumption) but it will be the exercise portion of my transformation.  I’ve always enjoyed bicycling as a recreational exercise/sport and enjoy watching the pros ride in races like the Tour de France, Giro de Italia, the Olympics, and anything else I could watch.  In my younger years I had dreams of being able to race in local races and hope to be able to do that someday whether it’s local criteriums or time trials. At one point, while I was in the military, I participated in a fundraiser to raise money for the Akron Children’s Hospital in Akron, OH. This involved a group of us that rode our bicycles from Groton, CT to Akron, OH.

Biking To Live is the documentary of my transformation.  Deep down I’m a tech geek and love the Internet.  What better way was there to satisfy my tech cravings, track my progress and share my experience, than to write about it on a blog?  So, after some careful consideration, I landed on the title of Biking To Live.  It means what it says.  I’m biking to live.  On this blog I’ll be posting my rides, weight loss, goals, problems, experiences, and anything else I can think of.  I’m holding myself accountable to posting this information and hope I can provide some measure of inspiration to others who may be in a similar situation.

Remember, Bike To Live.
