Developing a healthy lifestyle through cycling

About Me

Me not looking studly.

Me not looking studly.

Hi. I’m Bryan and I’m the President, CEO, CFO, COO, and general errand boy, at Biking To Live (my blog). I’m pretty much your average guy with a loving wife, three beautiful girls, and three cats. I work within the construction industry as a scheduler during the day. In the evenings and weekends I’m either playing some xbox, riding my bike, or working on this blog.

So, that’s me.  What most people don’t know is that I am way, way overweight.  To the tune of about 100 pounds.  Not only is that unhealthy, it’s also unfair to my family.  How so?  Because, by being this overweight and having the family I history I have, I’m putting my family in a position where they could be without a husband and father much sooner rather than later.

Why I’m Cycling

So, armed with those two compelling reasons, and after a long talk with my wife, I’ve made a commitment to return to cycling to help me lose the weight.  Cycling alone won’t do it (I also needed to make huge modifications in my daily food consumption) but it will be the exercise portion of my transformation.  I’ve always enjoyed cycling as a recreational exercise/sport and enjoy watching the pros ride in races like the Tour de France, Giro de Italia, the Olympics, and anything else I could watch.  In my younger years I had dreams of being able to race in local races and hope to be able to do that someday whether it’s local criteriums or time trials. At one point, while I was in the military, I participated in a fundraiser to raise money for the Akron Children’s Hospital in Akron, OH. This involved a group of us that rode our bicycles from Groton, CT to Akron, OH.

It’s Been A Rollercoaster

Biking To Live started as a documentary of my transformation.  I’ve had a lot of ups and downs since starting this blog:

As you can see, it’s been a turbulent last couple of years. Especially the latter half of 2008 and 2009. Life goes on though.

I Want To Help Others Like Me

As I blogged here at Biking To Live I started to build up a great group of readers and visitors who apparently liked what I had to say. Armed with that, I’ve been wanting to grow Biking To Live into more than just my personal diary. I’m sure reading personal accounts of my daily rides is riveting stuff (maybe I should create a memoir and retire) but I felt that trying to help others, like me, lose weight and get healthier through cycling would be a great thing to do. To do that, I started focusing my posts on subjects that would be beneficial to new cyclists wanting to learn more.

Product Reviews

Occasionally I’ll review a product here on Biking To Live. These are products I’ve either bought with my own money or a company has sent to me. Products given to me do not guarantee a positive review. The review will be unbiased for the benefit of my readers. If a product stinks I’ll say so. If it’s the next best thing since sliced bread I’ll say so. I won’t recommend a product to my readers unless I’ve used it myself. It would violate the trust of my readers if I wasn’t unbiased in my reviews or disclosed how I received the product.

That said, companies that would like a product reviewed can feel free to contact me. You’ve been warned.
